Chapter 7 - Leo’s Son Finally Chose a Side

Emergency lights turned the office red.

Gabriel stood in the doorway.

Thirty-five.

Black coat.

No weapon in his hands.

Alexander moved in front of Elena.

“Where is Sofia?”

Gabriel looked at him.

“I don’t know.”

“You expect me to believe you?”

“No.”

Gabriel closed the door behind him.

Victoria stared at him.

“You ordered Dominic’s brake line cut.”

Gabriel’s face changed.

“I was twenty-four.”

Alexander stepped closer.

“That is not an answer.”

“My father told me the car would stop two blocks from the estate.”

“Did it?”

“No.”

“Did you confess?”

Gabriel looked down.

“No.”

Alexander grabbed him by the coat.

Mrs. Bell whispered:

“Alexander.”

He let go.

Barely.

Gabriel reached inside his coat.

Everyone tensed.

He pulled out a phone.

A live audio call.

Leo’s voice.

“Gabriel?”

Gabriel placed the phone on Henry’s desk.

Leo continued.

“Did you find the originals?”

“Yes.”

“Burn them.”

Elena stared.

Leo said:

“And make sure the girl is gone before twelve.”

Alexander’s face hardened.

Gabriel looked at him.

Then at Elena.

For years, he had obeyed Leo.

This time he did not.

He said:

“No.”

Silence on the phone.

Leo’s voice became cold.

“What did you say?”

“No.”

“You forget who gave you everything.”

Gabriel’s eyes filled.

“No. I remember exactly.”

He looked at Alexander.

“You gave him my office.”

Leo went silent.

Gabriel continued.

“You gave him my seat at your table.”

Another pause.

“You made me spend eight years beside my cousin without telling him what I was.”

Alexander stared.

Cousin.

The word felt strange.

Leo spoke slowly.

“Do not become sentimental.”

Gabriel laughed bitterly.

“You killed Uncle Dominic.”

“I did not intend—”

Gabriel looked at Henry.

The phone was recording.

Leo did not know.

Alexander realized it too.

He stayed silent.

Gabriel said:

“You ordered the brake line changed.”

Leo answered:

“I ordered a warning.”

“You covered up his death.”

“I protected this family.”

“You threatened Sofia.”

“She was unstable.”

Elena stepped closer to the phone.

“My mother survived you for thirty-three years.”

Leo stopped.

“Elena?”

“Yes.”

The silence was long.

Then Leo said:

“You should have stayed in New York.”

Elena looked at the clock.

11:21 p.m.

“No.”

She picked up the pen.

“I should have come home sooner.”

She signed the trust acceptance.

Henry signed as witness.

Mrs. Bell signed second.

Alexander signed third.

Gabriel watched.

Then he removed a small flash drive from his pocket.

“I copied every transfer I made for Leo.”

Alexander stared at him.

“For how long?”

“Six years.”

“Why?”

“Because one day I understood that being his son did not mean I had to become him.”

He placed the drive beside the trust.

Henry exhaled.

“This is enough.”

Alexander looked at Gabriel.

“For what?”

“To freeze the shell companies.”

Gabriel nodded.

“And to prove the inheritance fraud.”

Alexander’s phone rang.

Unknown number.

He answered.

A woman whispered:

“Alexander?”

His face changed.

“Mother?”

Sofia began crying.

Elena grabbed his arm.

Alexander put the call on speaker.

“Sofia, where are you?”

“I’m at the old family chapel.”

Mrs. Bell frowned.

“We were just there.”

Sofia continued.

“Leo is here.”

Alexander’s eyes went cold.

“Is he hurting you?”

“No.”

“Then leave.”

“I can’t.”

“Why?”

May you like

Her answer stopped everyone.

“Because your father left something here that Leo has been searching for since the night he died.”
