Chapter 8 - The Man With the Black Rose

The name Enzo Rinaldi had not been spoken in the Moretti house for fifteen years.

Marcello remembered it.

Barely.

A transport company.

A financial scandal.

A public collapse.

A man accused of stealing from the Moretti group.

Bianca’s father.

She stood in the side room with both hands clenched.

“My father lost everything because of your family.”

Marcello looked at her.

“He was convicted of embezzlement.”

“He was framed.”

Arturo leaned back in his chair.

There it was.

The second weapon.

Not the fake pregnancy.

Not the forged paperwork.

History.

Bianca continued.

“My father spent the last years of his life saying he had been used as a scapegoat. Nobody believed him. We lost our home. My mother got sick. He died with people calling him a thief.”

Marcello’s anger did not disappear.

But the shape of it changed.

“And Arturo told you my father framed him.”

Bianca nodded.

“He showed me documents.”

Arturo said, “Because it’s true.”

Marcello turned toward him.

“Is it?”

Arturo said nothing.

Francesca left the room for less than five minutes.

When she returned, she carried an old leather file from their father’s private collection.

She placed it on the table.

“I know that name too.”

Marcello looked at her.

“Why?”

“Because Dad asked me to find this after his stroke.”

Inside were internal audit reports from fifteen years earlier.

Enzo Rinaldi had been suspected of theft.

But the investigation had never actually linked the missing money to him.

The decisive evidence came from a set of transfer authorizations signed by one executive.

Arturo Moretti.

Bianca stared at the pages.

“No.”

Francesca turned another sheet.

Their father had discovered the truth years later.

Arturo had diverted money through shell contractors.

When questions began, he shifted records toward Enzo’s company.

The scandal protected Arturo.

Enzo took the fall.

Marcello looked at his uncle.

“You framed her father.”

Arturo’s face finally cracked.

“He was weak.”

Bianca recoiled as if struck.

Arturo continued.

“Your father protected the family name. I protected myself. What difference does it make now?”

Bianca moved toward him.

Dante stepped between them.

Arturo smiled coldly.

“You wanted revenge on a Moretti. I gave you one.”

Bianca’s voice shook.

“You told me Marcello knew.”

“I told you what you needed to hear.”

Marcello understood everything now.

Arturo had chosen Bianca because her anger made her useful.

Victor had turned that anger into signatures.

Caruso had turned it into medical evidence.

And the fake pregnancy had turned it into urgency.

But one question remained.

The crown key.

Marcello looked at Bianca.

“Why did you enter the archive?”

She wiped her face.

“To get the succession draft.”

“Why hide the key inside the prosthetic?”

“Victor said nobody would search a pregnant woman.”

The answer was ugly because it was simple.

Bianca continued.

“I took the prosthetic off upstairs because the adhesive was coming loose. Lily walked in while I was fixing it. The key fell out. I panicked.”

Marcello glanced toward Francesca.

So that was the moment.

The entire conspiracy had been exposed because a child entered the wrong room at the right time.

Then Bianca said something else.

“But the draft wasn’t the only thing Arturo wanted.”

Marcello turned back.

“What else?”

Bianca looked at Arturo.

“A sealed letter from your father.”

Arturo lunged forward.

Dante caught him immediately.

Bianca continued.

“It was supposed to be in the archive. Arturo said if you ever found it, everything would be over.”

Marcello’s eyes narrowed.

“What letter?”

May you like

Bianca answered softly.

“The one where your father wrote who should be blamed if anything ever happened to him.”
