Chapter 9 - Peter’s Final Prescription

Peter entered without being invited.

Marco stood between him and Lucia.

Vanessa stood beside Marie.

Robert looked sick.

Peter smiled.

“Family.”

Marco stared.

“You poisoned Vanessa’s mother.”

Peter shrugged.

“I adjusted medication.”

“You forged medical records.”

“Yes.”

“You helped my uncle.”

“Yes.”

“Did you poison my father?”

Peter laughed.

“No.”

Marco’s face hardened.

“Then why visit him before the surgery?”

“To see whether he would talk.”

“He did.”

“Yes.”

“To me.”

Peter’s smile faded.

Marco continued.

“My uncle’s finished.”

Peter looked toward Marie.

“No.”

“He isn’t.”

Vanessa frowned.

“What?”

Peter opened his medical bag.

Not a weapon.

Documents.

He placed them on the table.

Power of attorney.

Corporate transfers.

Emergency succession.

Marco stared.

“My uncle signed these.”

“Yes.”

“To who?”

Peter smiled.

“Himself.”

Marco frowned.

“That makes no sense.”

Marie understood.

“He transferred everything to Peter.”

Silence.

Peter nodded.

“Your uncle expected prison.”

“So he moved control.”

Marco stared.

“You’re the successor.”

“Yes.”

Robert whispered:

“Why come here?”

Peter looked at Lucia.

“Because two signatures are still missing.”

Lucia’s.

Marie’s.

The identities used in shell companies.

If they signed corrected statements—

Peter’s control collapsed.

If they disappeared—

He could maintain the fraud.

Marco understood.

“You came to make sure they stay gone.”

Peter smiled.

“Something like that.”

Vanessa reached for her phone.

Peter looked at her.

“No signal.”

Marie checked.

Jammer.

Marco stepped closer.

Peter opened the medical bag again.

This time, syringe.

Lucia froze.

Marco looked at it.

“What is that?”

Peter smiled.

“Something that looks natural in women their age.”

Marco’s face went cold.

“No.”

Peter moved.

Robert tackled him.

The syringe fell.

Vanessa kicked it away.

Peter hit Robert.

Marco grabbed Peter and slammed him into the wall.

Marie shouted:

“Marco!”

He stopped.

Peter laughed through blood.

“Your father hit harder.”

Marco stared.

“That supposed to help you?”

“No.”

Peter smiled.

“It’s supposed to distract you.”

Smoke.

From the kitchen.

A timer.

Fire.

Peter had set it before entering.

Lucia screamed.

Vanessa pulled Marie toward the back door.

Robert grabbed documents.

Marco dragged Peter.

Peter resisted.

“Leave me.”

Marco stared.

“You wish.”

They escaped.

The farmhouse burned.

Police arrived.

Then federal agents.

Peter was arrested.

The documents survived.

So did everyone.

Robert sat in the ambulance.

Marie beside him.

No forgiveness.

But no running.

Vanessa stood with Marco.

She looked at the burning house.

“Every place connected to our families catches fire.”

Marco laughed quietly.

“Let’s never buy a cabin.”

She almost smiled.

Then grew serious.

“What happens to us?”

Marco looked at her.

The dark red gown was gone.

Hospital coat around her shoulders.

No performance.

No gala.

Just her.

“You hid my father.”

“Yes.”

“You delayed telling me.”

“Yes.”

“You chose your father.”

“Yes.”

She began crying.

Marco continued.

“But you also came here.”

“Yes.”

“You chose truth eventually.”

“Yes.”

He looked at her.

“I don’t know what that means yet.”

She nodded.

“Fair.”

The ambulance doors closed.

Lucia stood beside Marco.

His mother.

Alive.

Daniel was recovering in the city.

His father.

Alive.

Seventeen years of death had turned into two people waiting for him.

Marco looked toward the road.

Then at Vanessa.

“Tomorrow.”

“What?”

“We go see Dad.”

Vanessa stared.

“Together?”

May you like

Marco nodded.

“Together.”
