Chapter 7 - Dr. Vale Admitted the First Lie

Vale was stopped before boarding.

He asked for a lawyer before anyone asked a question.

That told Luca enough.

By noon, the private conference room held everyone.

Vale.

Bellori.

Belini.

Carlo.

Paolo.

Serrano.

Emma.

Luca sat at the center.

Not because he needed the chair.

Because he had learned something.

Power did not require standing.

Vale’s lawyer spoke first.

“My client has no knowledge of any criminal conspiracy.”

Luca looked at Vale.

“Then why did Bellori pay you?”

The lawyer objected.

Luca ignored him.

Vale remained silent.

Serrano placed two medical scans on the table.

“Your original prognosis.”

Vale looked at them.

Then at Luca.

“You altered the nerve assessment.”

“No.”

Serrano pointed.

“These images show temporary compression, not irreversible damage.”

Vale’s face changed.

Luca understood.

“You knew I could recover.”

Silence.

Belini looked at Vale.

“You told me he might never use that hand again.”

Vale finally spoke.

“I was told to emphasize worst-case outcomes.”

“By whom?”

He looked at Carlo.

Carlo stared back.

“No.”

Vale shook his head.

“Not Carlo.”

Everyone stopped.

Bellori looked suddenly nervous.

Luca noticed.

“Matteo.”

Bellori’s face went white.

Vale pointed at him.

“Him.”

Belini turned.

Bellori stood.

Marco pushed him back into the chair.

Vale continued.

“Bellori hired me.”

Carlo shouted:

“You said I arranged the crash.”

Bellori looked cornered.

Paolo laughed bitterly.

“There it is.”

The story changed.

Carlo had approved use of the SUV shell company.

But Bellori told him it was for surveillance.

Carlo had not ordered the collision.

He had still hidden records afterward.

Still committed fraud.

Still protected himself.

But he had not ordered the crash.

Luca looked at Bellori.

“Who did?”

Bellori said nothing.

Vale answered.

“Belini.”

The room froze.

Belini stood.

“No.”

Vale looked at her.

“You signed the payment.”

“That is a lie.”

Marco placed the transfer on screen.

Belini Holdings.

Two hundred thousand dollars.

Three days before the crash.

Belini stared.

“I never authorized that.”

Luca watched her carefully.

She looked shocked.

Real shock.

Emma saw it too.

“Someone used her company.”

Marco nodded.

“Like someone used Paolo’s credentials.”

Luca leaned back.

Same pattern.

Borrowed names.

Forged approvals.

People blaming the person whose signature was easiest to see.

He looked at Bellori.

“You built the paper trail to point at everyone except yourself.”

May you like

Bellori’s face collapsed.

And that was confession enough.
