Chapter 8 - Bellori Had Planned Everything

Matteo Bellori had spent eighteen years advising the Moretti family.

He knew the trusts.

The companies.

The succession rules.

The medical clauses.

More importantly, he knew the weaknesses.

Carlo feared losing money.

Belini feared losing Luca.

Paolo trusted official orders.

Doctors trusted legal authorizations.

Luca trusted the family structure.

Bellori used all of it.

He arranged the SUV.

Used Carlo’s company access.

Used Paolo’s credentials.

Paid Vale through Belini Holdings.

Then convinced Belini that Luca might never recover.

Once she believed that, she became useful.

Belini canceled meetings.

Restricted visitors.

Managed medication.

Requested incapacity documents.

Not because Bellori ordered every action.

Because he made her believe control was care.

Emma looked at her.

Belini had been manipulated.

But not innocent.

That distinction mattered.

Luca asked:

“Why?”

Bellori laughed quietly.

“You still think this was about her.”

He looked at Belini.

She stared back.

“It wasn’t.”

Then at Carlo.

“Or him.”

Carlo’s face hardened.

Bellori turned to Luca.

“It was about your father’s trust.”

Luca waited.

“The dormant shares.”

Luca understood.

His father had placed sixteen percent of Moretti Maritime in a legal reserve.

The shares activated only under two conditions.

Luca’s death.

Or permanent incapacity.

“And who controls them?”

Bellori smiled.

“The trust administrator.”

Marco checked the document.

Then looked up.

“Bellori & Bellori.”

Silence.

There it was.

Not family loyalty.

Not romance.

Not succession.

Money.

Bellori had planned to create the condition that transferred sixteen percent of one of New York’s largest private shipping groups into a structure he controlled.

Belini’s proxy trust was camouflage.

Carlo’s signature was camouflage.

Vale’s prognosis was camouflage.

The crash was the trigger.

Luca looked at Bellori.

“My driver died for sixteen percent.”

Bellori’s smile disappeared.

Luca continued.

“You drugged my recovery for sixteen percent.”

No answer.

“You built a legal argument around my body.”

Still nothing.

Emma watched Luca’s right hand.

It did not shake.

Not once.

Marco stepped forward.

“Police are waiting.”

Bellori looked surprised.

“You called police?”

Luca smiled faintly.

“You confused Mafia with stupidity.”

Bellori stared.

Luca nodded toward the door.

“Take him.”

As Marco moved him away, Bellori looked back.

“You think this ends because I go to prison?”

Luca said nothing.

Bellori continued.

“The trust still exists.”

Luca looked at Carlo.

Carlo understood.

So did Belini.

The final problem was not Bellori.

It was the system that had made Bellori’s plan possible.
