Chapter 10 - The Bloodline Revelation

Marcus choked for air under Gabriel's crushing grip.
His face turned a deep shade of purple.
“You.
.
.
you can't touch me,
” Marcus wheezed,
clawing desperately at Gabriel's sleeve.
“The governor.
.
.
the attorney general.
.
.
they're all in my pocket.
”
“Not anymore,
” a deep,
authoritative voice echoed from the doorway.
We all turned our heads.
Standing in the entrance of the study was Director Hayes of the Federal Bureau of Investigation,
flanked by four armed federal agents.
Behind them stood several local police commissioners who had spent years looking the other way.
Marcus stared at the federal agents in absolute horror.
“Director Hayes,
” Marcus stammered.
“This.
.
.
this is a misunderstanding.
Gabriel staged a coup—!”
“The only coup happening tonight,
Marcus,
is the dismantling of your embezzlement ring,
” Director Hayes interrupted coldly.
“We received the complete digital transfer of the syndicate ledgers ten minutes ago.
You're under arrest for federal corruption,
racketeering,
and the murder of Agent David Vance.
”
Federal agents swarmed into the room.
They yanked Marcus away from the bookshelf and slammed cold steel handcuffs onto his wrists.
As they dragged him past me,
Marcus glared with murderous intent.
“You'll never keep the estate,
Elena,
” Marcus snarled.
“Gabriel is just as guilty as I am!”
“Gabriel protected my family when the law failed us,
” I replied steadily,
looking him dead in the eye.
“And unlike you,
he has a soul.
”

The doors closed as Marcus was escorted out into the rainy night,
his political career destroyed in a matter of minutes.
