Chapter 18 - The Verdict of the Ballroom

With the trials concluded,

the estate in the Hudson Valley was sold.

Gabriel liquidated his remaining shares in Caruso Holdings,

placing the proceeds into a secure trust managed by federal oversight to fund education and victim support programs.

The grand ballroom where it all began stood empty once more,

echoing with the ghosts of a bygone era.

One evening,

before packing our final boxes,

Gabriel led me and Lucy back into that cavernous room.

The crystal chandeliers were unlit,

casting long,

elegant shadows across the polished floor.

“Do you remember what you told her on that night?” I asked quietly,

looking out across the empty space.

“I remember every word,

” Gabriel said softly.

He turned toward Lucy,

who was twirling around in her new,

perfectly fitted yellow dress.

“Lucy,

” Gabriel called out.

The little girl stopped twirling and looked up.

May you like

“Yes?”

“Would you do me the honor of teaching me how to waltz properly?”
