Chapter 6 - Lucia Moretti Left One Door Open

Lucia’s death file was cleaner than Lily’s.
Too clean.
Body recovered.
Dental confirmation.
Funeral.
Burial.
Independent witnesses.
No obvious gap.
Marco checked everything twice.
“She died.”
Luca said nothing.
Emma looked at the patriarch access record.
“Then someone inherited her credential.”
Vittorio shook his head.
“Not officially.”
Enzo leaned against the vault table.
“Lucia kept a physical authentication seal.”
“Where?”
“On a chain.”
Luca remembered.
A small silver medallion his mother wore under her clothes.
He had not thought about it in twenty years.
“Was it recovered?”
Marco checked.
No.
Lucia’s jewelry inventory listed earrings.
Wedding band.
Watch.
No seal.
Emma touched her own pendant.
The parallel made her uncomfortable.
Enzo stared at it.
Then froze.
“Open the back.”
Emma frowned.
“It already opens.”
“No. The back plate.”
Luca looked closer.
The floral engraving hid a seam.
Tiny.
Almost invisible.
Marco brought a tool.
Emma stopped him.
“My pendant.”
He handed it to her.
She pressed the damaged petal.
Click.
A second compartment opened.
Inside:
A thin silver disc.
Luca stopped breathing.
Lucia’s authentication seal.
Emma stared at it.
“This was around my neck the whole time?”
Enzo closed his eyes.
“Lucia must have given it to Lily before the crash.”
Luca looked at the access record.
“Then whoever accessed the ledger two days ago needed Emma.”
Silence.
She felt cold.
“But I didn’t come down here.”
“No,” Marco said.
“You didn’t.”
Emma thought.
Her pendant had never left her possession.
Except once.
Laundry room.
Three weeks after she started work, Belini had insisted the chain looked inappropriate with uniform standards.
Emma had removed it for thirty minutes while changing collars.
She looked at Belini.
Belini understood.
“No.”
Emma’s voice sharpened.
“You had it.”
“For thirty minutes.”
“Long enough to copy the seal?”
Belini shook her head.
“I didn’t know there was anything inside.”
Luca watched her.
For once, Emma believed her.
Belini looked genuinely terrified.
“Who handled staff lockers?”
Emma answered.
“Mrs. Vega.”
Head housekeeper.
Marco called.
No answer.
Security searched the estate.
Her room was empty.
Employee car gone.
Gate record:
left thirty-one minutes before lockdown.
Luca’s expression hardened.
Mrs. Vega had hired Emma into daily service after Enzo’s executive authorization.
She had access to uniforms.
Lockers.
Schedules.
Service corridors.
She also worked at the estate twenty-one years.
Long enough to have known Lucia.
Marco opened her personnel file.
Real name:
Isabel Vega.
Previous employer:
Rinaldi Asset Consortium.
Emma stared.
“The same company in the ledger.”
“Yes.”
Luca looked at Marco.
“Find her.”
They did.
Not far.
A Moretti-owned hotel near the river.
Room 903.
Isabel sat alone when security entered.
No attempt to flee.
A suitcase beside her.
Inside:
copied access seal.
old DeSantis files.
photographs of Emma from Saint Agnes.
Belini’s recruitment notes.
Luca stood across from her.
“You knew who Emma was.”
“Yes.”
“Before Belini?”
“Yes.”
“Did you tell her?”
“No.”
“Who did you tell?”
Isabel looked tired.
“Rinaldi.”
There it was.
The consortium had found Lily before the Bellinis.
Belini had only stumbled onto the same truth.
Luca’s voice cooled.
“What did they want?”
“The seal.”
“For the ledger?”
“Yes.”
“You copied it.”
“Yes.”
“Why?”
Isabel’s eyes filled.
“Because they have my son.”
Silence.
Emma looked at her.
Not greed.
Leverage.
Again.
Isabel continued.
“Rinaldi told me if I copied Lucia’s seal, they would release him.”
“Did they?”
“No.”
Luca looked at Marco.
“Name.”
“Mateo Vega.”
Marco searched.
Missing fourteen months.
Officially traveling.
False.
Rinaldi had been coercing Isabel long before Emma arrived.
Emma sat down.
The conspiracy had not begun with her.
It had only been waiting for her pendant.
Luca asked:
“What did Rinaldi take from the ledger?”
Isabel looked toward the suitcase.
“One page.”
Marco found the gap.
A page cut cleanly from the original book.
Vittorio recognized the section.
“Contingency ownership.”
Luca frowned.
“What contingency?”
Vittorio looked at Emma.
“If the succession trust was corrupted, Antonio created a second structure.”
Enzo whispered:
“The Restoration Trust.”
Luca looked at him.
“What does it restore?”
Enzo answered:
“Everything transferred illegally after Lily disappeared.”
Emma felt the weight of the answer before anyone explained it.

If she was Lily, she did not just reopen old transfers.
She activated a trust designed to take them back.
