Chapter 7 - The Trust That Could Take Everything Back

The Restoration Trust was not sentimental.

Antonio had designed it like a trap.

If Lily returned alive and unauthorized transfers were proven, the trust could reclaim voting rights attached to corrupted transactions.

Not every building.

Not every dollar.

Control.

That was worse.

Marco ran the numbers.

Moretti Holdings:

stable.

Bellini family companies:

exposed.

Rinaldi Asset Consortium:

deeply exposed.

Several political foundations:

exposed.

Two banks:

uncomfortable.

Belini sat very still.

“My father knew.”

Vittorio nodded.

“Yes.”

“You let me think this was only about inheritance.”

“I was trying to keep you from making a mistake.”

Belini laughed bitterly.

“I framed a maid for theft.”

Vittorio closed his eyes.

“Yes.”

“That feels like a mistake.”

Emma almost smiled.

Almost.

Luca looked at Enzo.

“Why was the Restoration Trust hidden from me?”

“Because Antonio did not know which side of the family office had been compromised.”

“So he trusted no one.”

“He trusted Lucia.”

Luca looked at Emma’s pendant.

His mother had carried the activation seal.

Then given it to Lily.

Not by accident.

Lucia had protected the mechanism before the crash.

Emma touched the pendant.

“I still don’t know if I’m Lily.”

Marco had already arranged DNA testing.

Fast.

Private.

Independent.

Luca refused to use Moretti labs.

Good.

They waited six hours.

Nobody slept.

When the result came, Marco read it first.

Then looked at Luca.

“Sibling probability: 99.9997 percent.”

Silence.

Emma stared at the page without touching it.

Luca did not move toward her.

That mattered.

He let her decide the distance.

She looked at him.

“So.”

His voice roughened slightly.

“So.”

“I’m Lily.”

“Yes.”

Her eyes filled.

She hated that.

Again.

Luca looked as if he hated his own reaction too.

Then Emma laughed once through the tears.

“That’s inconvenient.”

His mouth almost curved.

“Extremely.”

She stepped forward.

He opened his arms only when she did.

The embrace lasted seconds.

Twenty years compressed badly.

Not fixed.

Just real.

Belini looked away.

Vittorio did too.

Enzo cried openly.

Marco pretended not to notice anyone.

Then the moment ended.

Because Marco’s phone rang.

Rinaldi Asset Consortium had filed an emergency injunction.

They knew.

The DNA result had leaked.

Luca’s expression hardened.

“How?”

Marco looked toward Isabel.

She shook her head.

Then toward Vittorio.

No.

Belini.

No.

Enzo.

No.

Emma understood.

“Lab.”

Marco checked.

The independent lab had transmitted results to one insurer for chain-of-custody verification.

Rinaldi owned part of the insurer.

Of course.

Luca looked at the trust documents.

“What do they want?”

Vittorio answered.

“To prevent activation.”

“How?”

“Discredit identity.”

“They can’t.”

“They can if they prove Emma accepted employment under false pretenses.”

Emma stared.

“What?”

Belini went pale.

The planted ring.

The concealed scar.

The hidden pendant.

The contradictory recruitment trail.

Rinaldi could argue Emma had infiltrated the estate pretending not to know she was Lily.

Luca understood.

“They will use Belini’s setup as evidence of a larger fraud.”

Belini looked horrified.

“I helped them without knowing.”

“Yes,” Luca said.

No comfort.

Accurate.

Emma folded her arms.

“So what do we do?”

Vittorio said:

“Activate the trust before the injunction hearing.”

Luca immediately looked at Emma.

“No.”

She looked back.

“Why?”

“Because my father’s letter said not to sign before seeing the original ledger.”

“We have seen it.”

“Not the missing page.”

Emma understood.

The Rinaldi consortium had stolen the one page explaining contingency ownership.

If she activated without it, she could be signing into a trap.

Enzo nodded.

“Antonio always made the final condition physical.”

Marco’s phone buzzed again.

A message.

No text needed.

Photograph.

Mateo Vega.

Alive.

Seated in a private room.

Beside him:

the missing ledger page.

Rinaldi wanted an exchange.

Lucia’s seal for the page.

Emma looked at Luca.

“They need the original seal to destroy the trust.”

“Yes.”

“And we need the page.”

“Yes.”

May you like

Emma picked up the pendant.

“Then we finally have something they want more than I do.”
