Chapter 15 - The Vanguard Sails at Sunrise

Two years later.
The summer sun rose in breathtaking shades of gold, amber, and crimson over the sparkling waters of the Chesapeake Bay.
The air was sweet with the scent of blooming salt marsh grass, fresh paint, and the rhythmic, powerful clatter of shipyard machinery working in harmony.
I stood on the wide teak balcony of our newly built family home on the cliffs overlooking Vanguard Shipyards, holding a warm mug of fresh herbal tea—made with my own hands, pure and sweet.
Walking up the stone garden path below, carrying a set of architectural blueprints, was Tobias, laughing joyfully with Frank Gallagher and our new Chief Naval Architect. Tobias had fully reclaimed his life, serving as the brilliant, visionary Chief Operating Officer of Vanguard Defense Technologies, mentoring young maritime engineers from across the country.
A pair of strong, warm arms wrapped gently around my waist from behind.
I smiled, leaning my head back against the broad chest of Captain Sean O’Malley—the honest, loyal Coast Guard commander who had helped us take down the Vance syndicate, and who had become my partner, my protector, and the true love of my life.
"Thinking about the past, Rosalind?" Sean whispered softly, kissing the side of my neck with deep, tender devotion.
"I was thinking about the river," I murmured, turning in his arms to look into his warm, honest blue eyes. "I was thinking about how I thought my life was ending at the bottom of that water."
Sean smiled—that warm, steady, breathtaking smile that always filled my soul with peace—and gently brushed a stray lock of hair from my cheek.
"The river didn't end your life, Rosalind," Sean said softly. "It just washed away the lies so you could build something that would last forever."
Below us in the harbor, the deep, resonant horn of a brand-new, American-built naval vessel echoed across the bay as it slid gracefully down the slipway into the sparkling blue ocean.
I had survived the darkest betrayal a woman could endure.
I had exposed a generational conspiracy and reclaimed my father’s empire.
And in the process, I had found my true strength, my true family, and a love built on honor, courage, and everlasting truth.
My name is Rosalind Sterling.

And my life had finally, beautifully begun.
